dc.description.abstract In today’s global environment, employee productivity is an essential element of a company’s success. One of the factors that affect organizational performance is job stress. Workers’ efficiency can be significantly hindered by high levels of stress experienced in the work environment. Consequently, employers today are critically analyzing stress management issues that contribute to lower job performance of employees. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of occupational stress on job performance. The study was conducted among staff of Volta Regional Hospital in the Ho Municipality of Volta Region, Ghana. A cross-sectional survey was adopted as the research design, and stratified random sampling technique was used in selecting a sample size of two hundred and seventy-four (274) out of a staff population of eight hundred and seventy (870). Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and interview. Data were analyzed using Stata programme (Stata version 14). Results were presented in tables. From the results, it was discovered that heavy workload and role ambiguity were the major causes of occupational stress among staff of Volta Regional Hospital, and were likely to cause unruly effect on job performance. Based on the findings, it was concluded that stress related to work has the potential of harming the fortunes of an organization. As can be seen from this research work, there are low points in respect of how stress is managed. The study recommends that the management of Volta Regional Hospital should develop a policy on stress management to guide the employees in their day to day duties. en_US
